The Adventures of Captain Hatteras – Part II – The Field of Ice
This novel was first published in 1866. Set in 1861, the novel concerns the adventures of a British expedition led by Captain John Hatteras to the North Pole. Hatteras is convinced that the sea around the pole is not frozen and his obsession is to reach the place no matter what. Mutiny by the crew results in destruction of their ship but Hatteras, with a few men, continues on the expedition.

Jules Verne, was born on February 8, 1828 in Nantes, France and died March 24, 1905 in Amiens, prolific French author whose writings laid much of the foundation of modern science fiction.
