The Grave by Orville R. Emerson

The story of a soldier who finds himself buried alive in Flanders.

The first and only bit of fiction published by Orville R. Emerson, who was a lieutenant in the US Army in WW I, serving as a regimental intelligence officer in France and Belgium. He later returned to service in WW II, and was able to get a much cushier position as the commander of an army recreational area in Georgia. This is all quite relevant, as this a story about the horror of WW I where no supernatural elements are needed to drive a man mad.

A Story of Stark Terror
